HOMEBASE YOUTH SERVICES, YMCA LOOKING FOR BUSINESS INTERNSHIPS FOR YOUNG PEOPLE THROUGH "PROJECT ACHIEVE"
City of Phoenix Grant Will Fund All Wages, Hold Liability for Participating Businesses
PHOENIX, Ariz. (Dec. 23, 2008): HomeBase Youth Services and the YMCA are looking for business owners and managers to provide internships to young people primarily in Maryvale and the central corridor through Project ACHIEVE, a three-year program funded by a City of Phoenix grant to provide workforce development to youth ages 14 to 21.
The Internships up to 240 hours per participant or work experience are being sought in six industries: health care, bioscience, aerospace/defense, IT/software, advanced business and advanced manufacturing.
All internships and work experiences will be fully funded by Project ACHIEVE (Acquire, Collaborate, Health, Independence, Education, Vocation, Employment), a Workforce Investment Act (WIA) program. The program offers educational and employment support to young men and women who have identified barriers to success, including, but not limited to, low-income, homelessness and pregnant or parenting youth.
Project ACHIEVE also has funds available to buy shoes, clothing, transportation (bus or gas card), utility and rent assistance, uniforms and tools. Youth also are eligible to receive up to $3,000 a year to apply to post-secondary or advanced training in a recognized high-growth industry leading to a certification or education.

Project ACHIEVE currently serves youth from two locations: the Mike & Cindy Watts Maryvale YMCA at 3628 N. 67th Ave., and the HomeBase-operated Dustin Center at 1301 E. Almeria in downtown Phoenix.
